Agna Moraine’s Autobiography – Agna Moraine’s Autobiography

Monday, September 13th, 2010

here is – as promised – more Agna Moraine’s Autobiography. this is their self titled seven inch. it’s only four songs, so it’s less than ten minutes long. which is unfortunate, seeing as this is by all means close to the epitome of ’90s emo. beautiful and intricate guitars with gentle vocals and contained drumming eventually crash into a wall of sound and emotion. Agna Moraine’s Autobiography have cut their wrists, and from the slice they’ve given you a piece of life. download it and listen to it!

Agna Moraine’s Autobiography – Demo Tape

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

I want to share with you one of your favourite quintessential ’90s emo bands. this seven song demo tape is only just over fifteen minutes long, but Agna Moraine’s Autobiography manages to say a lot. their members have been in bands such as Constatine Sankathi, bev.clone and h.t.m.l., so these guys are seasoned emo veterans. with loud distorted guitars, shouting, screaming and a furious rhythm section, these guys hide most of their melody and beauty underneath a thick layer of chaotic and dissonant emo. you’ll find something worth paying attention to throughout this demo tape whether you are more a fan of dissonance or of melody, because Agna Moraine’s Autobiography fuses the two into what should be a rather conflicting sound, but ends up being just right. and carefully sprinkled around in the various tracks is some pure chaos, and some beautiful bits with heartfelt vocals and carefully played guitars that create the absolutely perfect nerve for emo. some of these songs appear in re-recorded versions on other releases… which will be up on that’s punk shortly! so start up with this download, and eagerly anticipate the next.

Sealings – Tape

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Sealings are an extremely loud and noisy punk rock band, much like Retainers. this English duo has wailing guitar solos, punchy drums and subdued vocals. and in this 8:47 thrasher of a tape, shoegaze meets raw punk rock like never before. this is distorted beyond recognition, yet melodic and pretty at the same time. Sealings have an original and enticing sound that needs to be heard. get in touch with the band at from http://www.myspace.com/sealings – where there’s also links to purchase their stuff. the password of the .rar file is “sealingull”. enjoy.

Paul Baribeau – 25 Songs

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

25 Songs is the last of our mini-marathon of Paul. it consists of (you guessed it) 25 songs, is the by far longest release at 42:37, contains a few songs you’ve heard before, and is awesome. 25 Songs was released between the self titled album and Grand Ledge in 2006. it’s not as easily digested due to the sheer amount of songs, so it might take a few listens to really get all the songs. the quality is just as high as on all of Paul’s glorious album, but when you get so many songs at one time, you obviously don’t get all of them at once. this album has both punk-y songs as well as folk-y songs. some songs include drums and electric guitars, whilst some are just the good old acoustic guitar. this release is clearly more a “collection of songs” than an actual album, so don’t expect total consistency or any real flow to it. these laid-back recording sessions sound very experimental at times, as they jump between a lot of different sounds. some of the tracks are merely jam sessions, and some are even obvious jokes. so, my point is: don’t download this and expect a new Paul Baribeau album to your collection. take it for what it is, and you’ll be able to appreciate the songs by themselves.

Paul Baribeau – Yikes Baribeau

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

yesterday I posted the first self-released Paul Baribeau album on that’s punk. but(!!!), that was not his first released self-released album. yes! there are more! and this is one of those two other self-released album. (stay tuned for the second one.) this was his very first release. a number of these tracks appears re-recorded on the self-titled record. those recordings are however extremely different from these ones. to be honest, these recordings are probably completely different from anything you’ve heard by Paul before. get this: it’s not folk rock as much as it is punk rock. there are electric guitars, drums, the whole package. it’s a full band. and it’s fucking awesome. this is Paul Baribeau like you’ve never ever heard him before, in a setting just as fitting as the one you’re already familiar with.

Paul Baribeau – Unbearable

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

whenever I ask any given person who their favourite that’s punk artist is, there’s at least an eighty percent chance that the answer I’ll get is Paul Baribeau. the that’s punk blog attract many different audiences, and all of them generally agree that Paul is one of the best artists of this often talked about “our time”. and now he’s back. this time with an insane recording budget that allows him to afford occasional vocal overdubs, and even an electric guitar on one track! but fans of the raw and emotional Paul we all got to know and love on his self titled, and Grand Ledge – he’s still here. the vocal overdubs results in a far more harmonic sound than I’ve grown accustomed to with Paul, but thankfully, it’s still very raw and very emotional. the album’s centrepiece “Rolling Clouds” is a perfect example of this, with its regretting lyrics and sad vocals. if you’re a fan of Paul’s, you’ll love this. if you for some obscure reason haven’t heard him yet – you’ll need this. because this has it all. catchy and creative chord progressions, a fragile and sincere vocal delivery and beautiful lyrics. I cannot stress the importance of paying attention to his lyrics enough, because he is a master of the arts. Paul Baribeau is definitely “the greatest living folk artist”. NOTE: this is self-released, not a Plan-It-X release. you can buy it from No Idea Records.
